Comedy & Theatre

I'm involved in theatre, improv and stand up comedy in Rockhampton.  I came to it late, and finally getting involved in the arts felt like coming home.  That's one of the reasons I'm passionate about creating opportunities for other people to get involved, through projects like Allsorts Open Mic and Rocky Street Press.

Rockhampton has a small but feisty comedy community with independent comics popping up at country pubs, city venues, community events and fundraisers.  My own comedy is largely observational and based ridiculous things life has thrown at me; exploding wine barrels, being sawn in half for a living, and growing up on a rosella farm.  (No, not the birds.)  Comedy has taken me to the Rockhampton River Festival, Yeppoon's Village Festival, Livingstone Shire Council's Beef to Beach celebrations, to Brisbane for Raw Comedy and, on one perhaps occasion best forgotten, into a garden bed.

My theatre outings include Keppel Coast Arts' Monsoon (November 2017) and Discomfort Zone Theatre Company's Aussie Shakespeare (January 2017).  My most recent production was Rocky Radio: Live on Stage, a full-length live show I produced and directed in February 2018.  Rocky Radio was a collection of eight short works performed live as radio plays, complete with penny whistles, trays of gravel and coconut shells to provide the sound effects.

If you'd like to talk about working together, please just get in touch.

Here's a little taste of what I do:

Stand up comedy from Jodie van de Wetering

Stabbings, schemes and a revolving door of power - you don't need a telescope to see parallels between Macbeth and recent years in Australian politics.

#Auspol Macbeth combines William Shakespeare's Macbeth with quotes from Australian prime ministers Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull.
