Comedy & Theatre

I'm involved in a range of performance projects in central Queensland, mainly around theatre, improv and stand up comedy.

I'm one of the founding members of Discomfort Zone Theatre Company, a small independent group creating new and original works that reflect the CQ region we call home.  Our first outing was Aussie Shakespeare, an Australian-themed Shakespearean cabaret in early 2017, and we're now sorting out funding and resources for more projects in 2018.  I'm also part of Discomfort Zone's improv troupe, which can turn a word into a sketch and a passing idea into a fully fledged piece of theatre.

Rockhampton has a feisty little comedy community, with an independent locally-run comedy club the Red Dahlia as well as comics doing the rounds of country pubs, community events and fundraisers.  My own comedy is largely observational and based ridiculous things life has thrown at me, like exploding wine barrels, working as a magician's assistant, and growing up on a rosella farm.  (No, not the birds.)

If you'd like to talk about working together on an arts project or booking some live improv or stand up comedy for your event in Rockhampton or the surrounding areas of Central Queensland, please just get in touch.

Here's a little taste of what I do:

Stabbings, schemes and a revolving door of power - you don't need a telescope to see parallels between Macbeth and recent years in Australian politics.

#Auspol Macbeth combines William Shakespeare's Macbeth with quotes from Australian prime ministers Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull.

Stand up comedy from Jodie van de Wetering
